When I first started this blog last summer I used the WordPress website. Last summer, when Peter and I were both starting new blogs we made the decision to move to hosted WordPress because it would allow us more control our sites.
I knew from the very beginning that I wanted a simple design with a clean and modern feel to it. Despite loving all things cute, I know that when I find blogs that have designs that annoy me I rarely go back unless I can subscribe to them in my feed reader – Google Reader – which pretty much takes out all design and allows me to focus on the content. Peter, on the other hand, has started going back to the websites of the blogs he reads because he enjoys checking out the designs on the various sites. I think I read too many blogs because I don’t think I’d manage to go to every site every day like that. I tweeted the other day that I was looking for a new theme:
And was pointed in the direction of a theme called Thesis by Derick Schaefer of Orangecaster.
So far I have gone from this:
to this:
without massive effort on my part.
There are still several things I need to play with, for example, I’m not sure how I feel about the “teaser” posts at the bottom of the page. I also have to think about adding some more color because it’s a little too white for me right now. But it’s a fresh start and fresh starts make me happy.
